Voter Registration

Eligibility to vote in the U.S. is determined by both federal and state law. Only citizens can vote in U.S. elections.

Get Registered or Check Your Registration Info

In most states, you must register before you can vote. Not sure if you’re already registered, or need to update your information? Select your state, county or city in the drop down menu.

Federal Voter Registration Form

While you can use a voter registration application from one of the links above that send you to a state, the National Mail Voter Registration Form can also be used to:

  • Update your registration information due to:
    • A change of name
    • A change of address
    • A change of political party affiliation.

After filling out the federal form, you must send it to a state or local election office for processing. Instructions are provided in the form for specific state requirements.

Exceptions: Please do not use this application if:

  • You live outside the United States and its territories and have no home (legal) address in the country.
  • Are in the military stationed away from home. For those in the military, use the Federal Postcard Application available to you from military bases, American embassies, or consular offices.
