In an ABC News – Washington Post poll in early October, Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain tied Rick Perry for second place after Mitt Romney. This follows Cain beating Texas Governor Rick Perry in the Florida straw poll in late September. In the Florida poll, Cain finished with 37 percent of the vote while Perry received only 15 percent.
The vote breakdown in Florida was:
Herman Cain – 37%
Rick Perry – 15%
Mitt Romney – 14%
Rick Santorum – 11%
Ron Paul – 10.5%
Newt Gingrich – 8.5%
Jon Huntsman – 2%
Michele Bachmann – 1%
Previous Florida straw polls have predicted the GOP nominee. Ronald Reagan won in 1979, George H.W. Bush won in 1987, and Kansas Senator Bob Dole won in 1995.
Herman Cain was born in Memphis, Tennessee on December 13, 1945. His father was a janitor, a barber, and a chauffeur and his mother was a cleaner.
Cain earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Morehouse College in 1967 and a master’s degree from Purdue University in 1971.
In 1977 at age 31, Cain joined The Pillsbury Company. Within three years, he rose to the position of Vice President of Corporate Systems and Services. He resigned his position in 1982 to begin work at Pillsbury’s Burger King Division. There, Cain worked his way up in the organization, even flipping burgers on the grill to better understand every aspect of the industry. Nine months later, he was managing 400 Burger King units in the Philadelphia region, the company’s poorest performer. Within three years, his region ranked number one.
In 1986, Cain was appointed president of then financially troubled Godfather’s Pizza, Inc. chain. In 14 months, the chain regained profitability and in 1988, he led his executive team in a buyout of the company from Pillsbury. In 1999, Cain became CEO and president of RetailDNA, a software technology company. Currently, Cain sits on the Boards of Directors of various companies.
Herman Cain married Gloria Etchison in 1968. They have two grown children and one grandchild.
God Bless America: A 9-11 Tribute from Herman Cain
Republican presidential Herman Cain pays tribute to the fallen of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 as he sings, “God Bless America.”

For once we may have a chance to have a very upstanding man at the helm. Thank God.
I sure do hope Gov.Mike Huckabee gives him some time on his show.
We al l need to talk about him and permote him all we can.
I am very impressed with Mr. Cain.
Way to go Hermain Cain!!! I have been following you since your radio program. We need to get out there and help him!!!!
congratulations mr. cain on your straw vote out of florida. stay in there and keep fighting for us and if the need be I will write you in on my ballot….
I am for Herman Cain, however he won’t have a chance, the political powers can;t let that happen. Also the Unions, the lawyers, the government employees will be against him.
Can you imagine how many lawyers, accountants and IRS agents his 9-9-9 plan would be putting out of business. These people might have to apply for a real job and get their hands dirty, that can’t be allowed.
In New York state we pay, Union members to retire and do nothing, for approximately 25 to 30 years, all on the back of the homeowners. Is that fair? Imagine, pay to do nothing?
Our Forefathers must me turning in their graves. We worry how much mpney we spend on wars, how about figuring out how much money we pay people to do nothing, and then complain about illegal aliens that fill in that gap?
I am definitely for Herman Cain. He is articulate, deeply honest and a man we can trust for our next president in the White House. I can support his ideals and convictions. His speech is very easy to understand and I don’t think that politics play much if any role in his thinking. He is my choice for our next president of the United States..
Margaret, That is not true. WE are the political power now because we are silent no more. You are not alone!! If everyone voted for Mr. Cain that wanted to he would win by a landslide. It was the same with Ross Perot. Many people I talked to said they would have voted for him if they thought he had a chance. If everyone that said that would have voted for him we wouldn’t have had to endure 8 years of the Clinton regime.
Congratulations on his straw poll vote. Everything Cain has said, what we have read, and his demeanor has highly impressed me. I’ll be watching him closely and hoping others from both sides will take note of a man who really might make a difference in our government.
